Celebrating New Year's Eve in Bangkok can be truly spectacular, and there's something for everyone. Thailand is also possibly the only country in the world that welcomes a new year no less than three times annually! The Chinese New Year is greeted at the end of January, while the legendary Thai New Year (Songkran) is celebrated over several days in April. Over the years, the Western New Year has been accepted as yet another occasion to party. From spectacular events featuring world-class entertainment, imported DJ's spinning their stuff at the city's swanky clubs and colourful countdown celebrations, to dazzling firework extravaganzas at the riverside and raunchy pole-dancers at Go-Go parties, you'll find it all in Bangkok.
Planning The Night

No matter where you'll be, at midnight dazzling fireworks will magically light up the skies above the city. Partying continues into the early hours. And, as soon as the sun comes up, many Thai people will head to temples for merit-making - to ensure that a happy and prosperous year follows.
Official Countdown Events
If you want to spend the arrival of the New Year in public along with thousands of others, there are three official venues in Bangkok to choose from. The biggest of them all happens in front of the newly revamped CentralWorld, in an area which is now called CentralWorld Square. With several hundred thousand revelers expected to attend, this is where it'll be happening! Leave the old year behind and welcome the new one with friends and family, spectacular light and sound shows and live on-stage performances by popular local artists. Enjoy the beer garden, lucky draws and countdown with other countries around the world on large-screen projections. The event is also broadcasted live by Thailand's Channel 7 (get there anytime from 18:00 onwards).
Likewise, the New Year's celebrations at the National Stadium have a contemporary feel. Expect a variety of stage performances and other entertainment including new and rising talent right through to the countdown. The star-studded event is organised by GMM Grammy Records and broadcasted live by Channel 9. A more traditional countdown takes place at Sanam Luang near the Grand Palace. If you're looking to celebrate the New Year in a cultured fashion, this is where you should be heading. Geared towards an older generation, celebrations take a more traditional and cultural stance. The entertainment programme includes performances by several respected Thai musicians and classical Thai dance troupes. The Governor of Bangkok normally delivers a speech, and the event is attended by several religious leaders who bless the year that lies ahead
