April

What: Bangkok Sculpture Center (The Evolution of Thai Sculpture)
When: Ongoing (by appointment)
Where: PM Center, Ramindra Road, Soi Nuanchan
Contact: +66 (0)2 559 0505 / +66 (0)2 559 2070

Founded with the aim of promoting and supporting local Thai sculptors, the Bangkok Sculpture Center is a non-profit organisation that serves as a place for keeping sculptures before they are exhibited to the public at different venues. The center in open to the public every second Saturday from 10:00 until 17:00. It also houses a vast and impressive collection of sculptures in a permanent exhibition. Pictured right, this sculptor transforms simple-shaped nails into a work of art. Two nails are used to symbolise the relationship of a couple. The head of the nails symbolise human thought and mind which need privacy and freedom. The straight part, lower from the head until the middle, signifies that, for a long-lasting love life, both need to be disciplined and comply with rules.

The intertwining part is a knot or a problem, which arises when one breaks the rules, making it necessary for the other to compromise and forgive. The pointed sharp end of the nails show strong will and determination. If a couple can follow these principles, they will live a happy, peaceful and long-lasting love life. This is just one example of the huge collection of sculptures on display, both outdoor and in the indoor gallery area. A big must for art lovers. Call before-hand to confirm opening times and to make an appointment.

What: Pigs Can't Fly in Plimsolls by Brett
When: Ongoing
Where: La Lanta Fine Art
Contact: +66 (0)2 266 9180

Pigs Can't Fly series features 12 round-bellied pigs with wings standing with confidence in training shoes branded Plimsolls.  Each pig imprints tiny paintings of global art movement throughout the history including Picasso-ish, Pop-ish, Dubuffet-ish, Fernand Leger-ish and much more. Brett's art making is not about reinventing the wheel. He mixes together the very well known, super exposed artwork with the ordinary, trivial figures and articles such as pig and boots. The result is contradictory and that makes his art communicates.
