Absorb centuries of history and culture along Thailand's 'River of Kings' on board the legendary Mekhala. Cruise either upstream from Bangkok or downstream from the ancient capital of Ayuthaya, staying overnight alongside a traditional Buddhist temple. Ayuthaya, in former times, was the capital of Siam, a great trading city and the envy of the whole region before it was destroyed by the Burmese in 1767. The ruins still remain a haunting reminder of its former spendour.
The Mekhala, a former rice barge, transformed to a floating boutique hotel, provides your accommodation, complete with air-conditioned cabins and comfortable chairs on deck to view life along the waterways. Unforgettable.

Begin cruising up the Chao Phraya River with spectacular views of the Grand Palace and the Temple of Dawn. Just after sunset, the MEKHALA docks at Wat Kai Tia, a Thai temple set in a tranquil rural village. An exquisite candlelit dinner of mouth-watering Thai cuisine is served on the deck. Overnight on board in your air-conditioned cabin. |

A delicious breakfast is served on board. Then depart for Bang-Pa-In where your guide will take you to visit the Summer Palace. Continue by long-tail boat to the ancient capital of Ayuthaya. Lunch at a local restaurant, then visit the idyllic ruins of the once glorious capital In the late afternoon our air-conditioned mini-bus will take you back to your hotel in Bangkok. |
