If you visit Bangkok and you intend to party, then Sukhumvit Road will be the centre of your world. This main thoroughfare hosts most of the finest clubs and bars that the city has to offer, not to mention the famous red-light districts of Soi Cowboy and Nana Plaza. Soi 11 is always busy, guaranteed to be pumping into the early hours, while the Thong Lor area (Soi 55) attracts a more socialite crowd, with an even split between Thais and foreigners. The BTS Skytrain Line runs directly over Sukhumvit Road making this area the most convenient for travellers to experience this adult’s playground.

At first sight, Soi Cowboy looks like a fantasy land of bright pink neon, but here fantasies become real for all those searching for the dark side of Bangkok’s nightlife culture; namely, go-go bars. This red-light district has a more laid-back, carnival-like feel to it than other famous go-go districts such as Patpong or Nana Plaza. The colourful streetscape is comprised mainly of middle-aged expats, Japanese and western tourists, and of course a lot of sexily dressed girls. There are more than 20 bars lined one next to the other each following the same formula of a central stage, loud music and scantily clad dancers. Typically, bars here are open from 20:00 to 02:00. Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok waited a long time for its very own rooftop bar, and then finally one came along and showed the rest of them how it should really be done. Octave Rooftop and Lounge is more than a place for watching the sunset or having a romantic meal. No rooftop bar in the city has a 360 degree view of Bangkok that matches this, and the top floor of this three level venue is the highest spot in the city for a party. Starting on the 45th floor of the Marriot Hotel Sukhumvit, a three minute walk from Thong Lor Skytrain Station, Octave Rooftop Bar and Lounge opens at 17:00. Read More...

Levels Club & Lounge is a venue with three distinct party zones housed in one connected space, and offers a great alternative to the already rocking nightlife scene on Sukhumvit Soi 11. Combining elements of a terraced bar, classy lounge, and a box-like clubbing room that has one of the best sound-systems in the city, Levels covers a lot of musical ground and tries to provide a little something for everyone. Occasionally they charge an entry fee for special events or on nights with international DJs, but it’s usually free entry. Read More...

Beam Nightclub Bangkok is one of the latest dance clubs to open in the city, bringing underground house and techno music to Bangkok’s bass heads. The music policy is strictly adhering to the ‘cooler’ elements of the dance music scene so don’t expect to hear and vocal EDM tracks. The music style you are most likely to hear is minimal and deep tech-house in the bare, dark main room that is more reminiscent of European dance clubs than the glitzy and glamourous style of partying often preferred by Thais. The VOID Acoustics sound system at Beam Club Bangkok is incredibly good, as is the LED laser and light show. Read More...

With bare brick walls covered in graffiti, exposed piping and metal shutters instead of doors, you could be forgiven for thinking Demo is an abandoned warehouse, but it is actually one of the coolest and most fashionable nightclubs in Bangkok.
Demo is actually one of two clubs connected together, and guests are free to move between the two to check out the different vibes. Funky Villa next door attracts a more mainstream crowd and has a more eclectic music policy; live acts play up-tempo party tunes for everyone to sing along with (if you can speak Thai), and DJs are encouraged to play a range of chart and R&B tunes. Demo is darker, more demure and rocks out to more base heavy beats. Expect to hear house and tech-house music with elements of more niche electronic genres like dubstep. Read More...

32 floors above Bangkok’s premier party street on Sukhumvit Soi 11 you will find Above Eleven, a chilled-out Central Park inspired rooftop bar, set out over two floors. As well as coming for a sunset cocktail, you can also experience their unusual Peruvian-Japanese fusion dishes. Around ten minutes walk from the BTS at Nana, Above Eleven bar and restaurant is on the rooftop of Fraser Suites and can be accessed by the entrance at the back of the serviced apartment complex. Iron Fairies is a magical bar that is designed like an ironsmith’s workshop: dark and broody, with wrought iron staircases, exposed pipes and dilapidated timber and brick. Bottles fairy dust are stacked in rows, and everywhere you look you could chance upon little iron figurines of the winged creatures that give the bar its name. Open from 18:00 to 02:00, it can be quite a mission to find Iron Fairies so just remember to walk past Thong Lor Soi 10 and keep looking on your right hand side. The closest BTS Station is Thong Lor but you will need a quick taxi from there. A live jazz band starts from 21:00. Read More...

Brew Beers and Ciders has the largest stock of beers, ciders and ales in Bangkok and is the place for anyone who tires of the predictable Chang, Singha and Tiger which make up Thailand’s usual selection. At Brew, there is an unbelievable range of draft and bottled beers from micro breweries around the world, and you are pretty much guaranteed to find even the most bespoke of tipples. As with other imported non-essentials, imported beers are subjected to heavy tax so don’t expect a bargain here – expect to pay around 250 baht a beer, up to 300 baht for stronger or more unusual Belgian abbey beers. Brew is on the ground floor of Seen Space, an outdoor community mall on Thong Lor Soi 13, which is one of the most fashionable districts in the city and a favourite of rich, young Thais and many foreigners yearning for a taste of the world’s best beers. Located in Sukhumvit Soi 4, Nana Plaza is Bangkok's naughty central. Notorious for its racy themed go-go bars, there are three storeys of eye-popping activity all focused around a square-shaped central atrium. Unlike at the better-known Soi Cowboy or Patpong, Nana Plaza is a more ‘adult' scene. That means no families, no markets and few curious tourists. It is still worth a look if you are searching for an exotic visual experience, and a story to talk about when back home. Read More...

Narz is a nightclub housed inside a glass-fronted mansion with three separate rooms to explore and enjoy. It is a late night club that stays open after most others in the city have closed and has a sleek and modern décor that attracts a wide range of clientele. Of the three types of music on offer – hip hop, house or trance – the hip hop room fills up first, and if you are arriving before 24:00 definitely head upstairs as the other rooms don’t really get going until later. However it is trance music that Narz is most widely known for, with a roster of top-class DJs, a steady stream of guest acts and a crowd consisting of young and mostly Thai revellers, who arrive late and leave as the sun comes up.
