It’s no surprise that most of the nightlife in Chidlom is centred around the plethora of fine hotels that fill this small and compact area of central Bangkok. From stunning rooftop bars to underground nightclubs, a good portion of our Top 10 nightlife in Chidlom list is comprised of venues inside, on top of or underneath hotels.
All of the bars, pubs and clubs in Chidlom that have made our list can be accessed by taking the BTS Skytrain to Chidlom, and then you can walk from there. Whilst the area is better known for its endless supply of malls, rows of exclusive hotels and numerous international embassies (including the American and British), this list is proof that there is life after dark in Chidlom!

Mixx has earned a reputation throughout the entire city for being a popular afterhours nightclub to hit. The club can be accessed through the basement of the Intercontinental Hotel; a central location that inevitably means that it’s mostly tourists and Thai girls on the prowl who frequent the place.
Mixx nightclub has two rooms; the first is bigger and busier with hip-hop and chart hits, whilst the other is dedicated to more underground techno and house music (and also doubles up as one giant smoking room too). Entrance is normally around 350 baht (with one free drink) unless you’re planning on buying a bottle of whiskey or vodka, which can be purchased before you go inside. Please note that since its opening in 2010, Mixx has continuously changed its closing hours. Depending on the night – and the mood of the local police - it can go on until 05:00, whilst on other nights music might suddenly stop as early as 02:00. Read More...

The Speakeasy rooftop bar at Hotel Muse really is like no other rooftop bar in Bangkok. Whilst most drinking spots perched on top of hotels and office blocks across the capital focus mainly on the views, The Speakeasy is all about the bar itself, which is truly inspiring.
Taking its name from the underground bars during the prohibition era in America, The Speakeasy has a running 1920s theme running throughout. Classic cocktails are mixed to the sound of funky jazz in the background, with seating options either at the bar, around the edge, or on the garden terrace on the second (and top) floor. Another real highlight to this rooftop bar is the smoking lounge, ‘The Blind Pig’ where you can purchase a Cuban cigar, don your very own smoking jacket, sit back with a vintage bourbon and pretend you’re Al Capone for the night. Heaven at Central World is a collection of sophisticated rooftop bars and restaurants (Zense, Shintori, and Horizons) offering sundowner cocktails, international cuisine and, as the night wears on, live DJs playing electro and house.
Zense is one of the top rooftop bars in Bangkok, not in terms of height (it’s only on the 17th floor) but rather all the other factors that are essential for creating a great lofty drinking spot. Firstly, the prime location on top of Central World means its well-placed for some post-retail theory in the liquid form. The great central location also ensures that views are almost unobstructed over Chidlom, Ratchadamri and The Royal Bangkok Sports Club. Service at Zense is spot on, the menu of international food and drinks is excellent, and there are numerous seating options. However, if you are looking to kick the party up a gear, head up to Horizons on the top floor where you will find a modern bar area decked out in black and grey, with a huge DJ podium and a bass-heavy playlist. This cinema at Central Embassy shopping mall may well be Bangkok’s most luxurious place to watch a movie.
The Central group have invested a whopping 120 million baht into the cinema making it one of the most expensive in the world. Designers certainly have gone the extra-mile on almost every aspect, making the whole cinema experience feel more like being in the business-class area of a jumbo jet. The cocooned seating booths are fully reclinable with pillows and blankets and you also get your own mini bar, a butler service call button and snacks. The seating numbers are limited too, meaning the whole cinema feels much more private and intimate compared to other nearby competition. Before and after the movie, there is also a private VIP bar for some refreshments to start or complete your evening in ultimate sophistication. Tickets start at around 1,200 baht per person (including drinks).
- Opening Hours: 10:00 - 24:00 (depends on show times)

Want to rub should with Bangkok’s elite and maybe even the odd Thai celebrity that you’ve never heard of? Then one of your best bets in the city is the much-talked about Falabella nightclub at the exclusive Royal Bangkok Sports Club at Ratchadamri, which has a nightly mix of Thai bands and a live DJ drawing in all of Bangkok’s prettiest and wealthiest yuppies and expats.
Although located in a sports club, the multi-faceted bar, restaurant and nightclub is open to everybody, as long as you are dressed smart enough. The venue has a nice outside area for seating and some pleasant views over the surrounding golf course, whilst the inside club is cool and sophisticated, often with a hefty cover charge (500 baht) to get in. The venue doubles up as a posh Italian restaurant in the daytime and there’s also another bar (called ‘Monkey Bar’) set in a delightful 1930’s colonial house next door.
- Opening Hours: 17:00 - 02:00
- Address: 100 Rajdamri Road, Bangkok

You can find the rather swanky 87 Plus bar at The Conrad, an equally upscale hotel, so expect a largely affluent and well-dress clientele here. Whilst there is a definite air of sophistication about this bar, a live DJ playing house and hip-hop loosens the crowd up a bit, although don’t expect things to ever get too out of control.
87 Plus do a sturdy range of drinks, with classy cosmopolitans, martinis and expensive bourbons usually being the drink of choice, without a Chang beer in sight. They also put on an enticing buy-one-get-one free happy hour (18:00-22:00 Fridays, 20:30-22:30 Sat-Thurs). The closest BTS Skytrain Station is Pleonchit but you can also walk from Chidlom Station.
- Opening Hours: 18:00 - 02:00

This classy Italian restaurant inside Bangkok’s luxurious Grand Hyatt Hotel may seem more like a place to indulge in delicious pastas or pizzas in the daytime; however, this stylish space is most loved for its nightclub. Attracting an older crowd than most other joints in the city, entrance is 750 baht and drinks are similarly pricey, but that is the price you pay for exclusivity. Every evening from 22:00 levels of sophistication are turned up a notch as a live band takes to the stage until 02:00, playing international dance with a jazzy twist.
This place is well known for drawing in Bangkok’s prettiest people, as well as those with some cash to splash. Although that might put some off, the venue does boast a genuinely cool ambiance with its flamboyant design, multiple seating options (including some towering bars stools where you can watch your mixologist create superb cocktails and if none of that interests you, their menu of Italian treats surely will.

Diplomat Bar takes its name from the fact that it sits right in the heart of Bangkok’s ‘Embassy District’, and with its sumptuous lighting, sexy silk couches and glitzy round bar, this place is the perfect spot for a passing ambassador or two. Although anybody can get in (as long as you’re not dressed for the beach), the crowd is comprised of mostly wealthy businessmen staying in one of the nearby luxury hotels, rich Thai couples and of course, high-profile diplomats.
The elitist vibe is completed with some soft live jazz every night, high prices on rare wines and whiskeys and some five-star customer service from the extra attentive wait staff. You can find Diplomat Bar at The Conrad Hotel on Wireless Road, walking distance from Ploenchit and Chidlom BTS Stations.

Whilst this modern and upmarket complex of restaurants and bars at Central World is better known for its culinary delights rather than its booming nightlife scene, most of the joints here stay open late, presenting a great opportunity for some post shopping, post work or post anything - come to think of it - drinks.
The best places to wet your whistle at Groove include the excellent HOBS (House of Beers) for its range of - you guessed it – beers, as well as the stylish Wine I Love You and Wabi/Sabi Japanese & Sake Bar (all on the first floor of Groove, open until 01:00). If you’re hungry, the best spot for European food is 1881 by Water Library, whilst if you want some fancy Thai food, head to Apinara Thai Cuisine and Bar on the second floor, which closes at 02:00. Love F Bar – or ‘Fashion Bar’ – is located above the more popular Mixx nightclub in the basement of the Intercontinental Hotel. Just like Mixx, this big bar welcomes mostly tourists (due to the close proximity with many central Bangkok hotels), as well as a few expats and helping of Thai girls.
The bar is actually affiliated with ‘Fashion TV’, the popular station for never ending catwalk re-runs/last ditch option when all the other channels on your hotel TV are screaming a foreign language at you. The atmosphere inside is relatively laid back and civilised, with plenty of spacious seating options and a live DJ every night. Love F Bar, however, has always taken second stage to Mixx club down below.
