The menu is healthy but not austere, and there is much use of imitation meat and fish, made from strictly vegetable matter. Fried beef with lemongrass turns out to be crispy, chewy mushroom, an ingredient that also turns up in Vietnamese-style noodle salad and is piquant and moreish in both. Taro-stuffed appetiser is more subtle, but the plate clears just as quickly. Mock duck is heady with Chinese five-spice, and green curry with young coconut proves that meatless food need not be bland. The only dish that doesn't quite work is sashimi (made from konnyaku), which tastes more of the ice it's served on than anything else. Desserts are not forbidden; try banoffee or blueberry pie. The Water Drop won't suit everyone, but if your body and soul are saturated with lobster and foie gras, it makes a refreshing change.

Setting

This vegetarian eatery, run by a Taiwanese Zen Buddhist group, is a simple but cheerful room, with yellow paintwork, in an office complex on Rama IX.
