Food

Thompson's menu has two parts: contemporary takes on classic Thai dishes and a western menu of salads, sandwiches and pasta. Though the spice is toned down for visitors' tastes, the Thai food is well executed and not far off the real thing. Sai aua is a delicious starter, the spicy pork sausage moist with flavours that gently glow across the palate. Tod man pu ma-moung is bland, the crab cakes more breadcrumb than spice. Vietnamese-inspired guey tiew lui suan tuna, fresh rice noodle spring rolls stuffed with crispy carrots and tuna, come with a tasty chilli-lime dip. For mains, try creamy red beef curry gaeng panang neau, tender meat in a sweet, gently spiced sauce or that Isaan classic, gai yang set, tender grilled chicken, excellent dipped in tamarind sauce, with an authentic som tam. The dessert menu includes western and Thai favourites, such as coconut ice with jackfruit.

Setting

In the grounds of the Jim Thompson House, the options are indoor dining in a lowceiling, bright, Thai contemporary cafe of simple wood tables and cushioned chairs or outside by the koi pond.
