Food
The lunch-time dim sum menu features generous portions. Start with sponge beancurd and BBQ duck in brown sauce, steamed broccoli topped with crab roe, and steamed minced prawns and bamboo shoot rolls. Then share a starter, perhaps deep-fried fish, crunchy shrimp balls or popular chicken feet with sesame oil. The extensive seafood menu offers fresh lobster, prawns, crab claws, fish, scallops and abalone prepared in many styles. Sauteed garoupa fillet with Taiwan lettuce is delicious, a fresh, laky fillet served atop anise-flavoured braised lettuce in a light soysauce. Many beancurd dishes and traditional Chinese vegetable dishes like stir-fried kale with oyster sauce are available, as well as duck, pigeon, chicken and meat standards, such as lightly spiced fried pork fillet in black pepper. End with Chinese dumpling with gingko nut in light ginger soup and a stroll.
Setting
A bright, airy room simply decorated in red, gold and pastels, the Empress is popular with well-heeled Thai-Chinese working in nearby government buildings.
