Food

The food is almost as good as the view. There is a good range of Thai favourites and pasta dishes which are relatively inexpensive but people with bigger appetites and budgets should look no further than pan-fried Australian tenderloin with stir-fried spinach and perigueux sauce. The steak is cooked to perfection, a thick slab of succulent meat, but unfortunately the same cannot be said for pork chops which would have benefitted from a longer spell in the oven. This is probably a reflection on the sheer volume of customers rather than the competence of the kitchen staff. When they do flex their culinary muscles it can be to awesome effect-the foie gras salad is quite simply perfect-but there does seem to be a certain lack of consistency.

Setting

In certain respects The Deck has been a victim of its own success in that even booking a table in advance does not necessarily protect against a wait. The restaurant is popular largely for the location besides the Chao Phraya River and overlooking Wat Arun, among the most impressive temples in Bangkok.
