The menu is strictly vegetarian, but that is the only limitation, and recipe ideas come from all over the world. Starters such as Middle Eastern falafel and peppery Vietnamese spring rolls are reminders that many classic international dishes are naturally flesh-free. Elsewhere, cuisines collide with delicious effect: consider the Mexico-meets-Malaysia experience of quesadillas with peanut sauce; or Towers of Babel, vegetable and tofu stacks with pineapple tempura and coconut rice. More conventional veggie offerings, such as gratins and lasagna, are also on offer, as is a substantial wild mushroom 'steak' that might convert the more diehard carnivore. Bread puddings with good custard, and chocolate ice-cream gateau refute the big lie that vegetarians are joyless puritans; as do the all-day brunch menu, full of muffins and eggy delights, and the Sunday afternoon salsa tea parties.

Setting

Comfortable chairs populate a split-level, glass-fronted space. The walls are adorned with modern art and photographs, which extend to the gallery upstairs.
