The upstairs floor of the restaurant
serves teppanyaki, while the lower level focuses on sushi
and sashimi, with selections from local fish markets as
well as imports from Japan. A must-order is shake kawa
maki, hand-rolled sushi with crispy salmon skin and
avocado. Each bite is full of flavour, with the crunchiness
of the salmon skin complemented by the sweetness
of the seasoned rice and the buttery richness of the
avocado. Gindara saikyo (grilled snowfish) is served
with wedges of lime and grilled expertly, maintaining the
aroma and taste of the fish. Last but not least, try yuzu
ice cream, a home-made citrus treat which makes a
refreshing end to the meal.
Banya
One of the more refined Japanese establishments in downtown Bangkok, Taihei offers breathtaking views from the 53rd floor of the Banyan Tree hotel. The staff excels in terms of attentiveness and politeness, but could do with a little more knowledge about the food they serve.
