The tapas selection here may not
be the most innovative or luxurious in Bangkok, but
it's probably the most authentically Spanish. Try juicy
grilled squid, comforting ham and egg croquettes, nicely
flavoursome sardines or humble yet deeply moreish
patatas bravas (fried potatoes with piquant tomato
sauce). Gourmets will seize on some of the speciality
Spanish hams, including luxurious pata negra; or maybe
Galician-style octopus, grilled with smoked paprika. It's
very easy to concoct a satisfying meal from a selection
of tapas alone, but it's also worth checking out the
bigger dishes, such as paella mixta, dense with rice,
seafood and chicken, freshly made to order. Desserts
are a strong suit as well; try to spare a little room for
crema catalana, the Spanish take on creme brulee, or
maybe almondy tarta santiago.
The middle sibling of Guy Jackson's tapas restaurant family keeps to the trusted formula of tasty, inexpensive eating and a laid-back Iberian atmosphere, abetted by cheerful, speedy staff.
