One of the few Greek eateries in town, Souvlaki has no pretensions to fine dining, preferring to serve inexpensive, filling dishes to passing tourists and bar-hoppers. Ouzopoikilia, a platter of mixed appetisers, is a good introduction to Greek cuisine for newcomers. Greek salad is generous and substantial, packed with juicy tomatoes and tangy feta cheese. Deep-fried calamari could be more tender, and needs the accompanying tartare sauce to perk it up. Pita stacks, with meat or vegetarian fillings, will attract pizza-lovers who need a dose of carbohydrates. Moussaka is less successful, with a pungent cheese sauce offering the dominant taste sensation in what should be a signature dish of any Greek restaurant. Close with some creamy Greek yoghurt.

Setting

A converted shophouse with clean, fairly functional seating on three levels, including an outdoor section looking onto one of Silom's less salubrious side roads.
