North Indian food is known for its
unbelievably rich curry sauces and spectacular variety
of flavours, from the sour of a mango pickle to the bite
of tikka spice. The only downside is that at Royal India,
oil is used in preference to ghee (clarified butter) as a
cooking medium. Crispy samosas and slightly charred
paneer tikka make tasty starters. That old British-Indian
warhorse chicken tikka masala is a must, as is traditional
vegetarian thali, offering a sampling of vegetarian dishes
from across the menu. Desserts, such as gulab jamun,
are hit and miss.
Travelling to Pahurat, Bangkok's Little India, is always an adventure. In a small alley at the centre of the neighbourhood can be found this long-established restaurant, known to backpackers and locals alik
