The menu offers a range of agreeable
starters. Garlic prawns in extra virgin olive oil with dried
chilli (gambas al ajilo) is fresh and perfectly cooked,
but swimming in oil that dominates the palate. Cream
of Italian truffle soup is flavourful without being overly
rich, but ultimately unsatisfying. Two signature main
dishes are fettuccine alla Romana with truffle oil and
roasted rack of lamb with mashed potato and spinach.
Truffle oil with seafood is not usually an ideal match, and
this example struggles to pull it off. Rack of lamb is well
cooked, and the accompanying sauce well executed,
but while the potato has great texture it is sorely lacking
in salt and the spinach is similarly flavourless. Finally,
French-inspired crepes suzette stands out as a fine
example of a simple and classic dish.
The setting is agreeable, although the presence of TV being played on two large screens detracts from the overall mood. The live music, however, is well performed and creates a pleasant environment. Ideal for larger groups.
