The restaurant offers a broad selection of Thai and European favourites, so diners can mix and match cuisines for an international dining experience. Start with steamed garlic and chive dumplings, and then snap the palate to attention with spicy wing bean salad with shrimp. For a main dish, savoury Provencal bouillabaisse is full of slow-cooked, succulent mussels, fish and a large, tender prawn. Still on the Western side of the menu, grilled salmon is nicely prepared, but its accompanying zucchini and boiled potatoes are disappointingly undercooked. Spaghetti napolitana, on the other hand, is served perfectly al dente. If you choose Thai dishes, a sure bet is the famous boat noodles with beef or pork balls. Desserts tend towards Thai, with nicely rendered sticky rice and mango and stewed bananas standing out.

A relaxing refuge from Bangkok's chaos, Provence is situated on several tiers of the Peninsula Plaza shopping centre with parasols and indoor plants evoking a French cafe. Live piano music completes the casual yet genteel ambience.
