Palazzo offers innovative variations on classic Italian cooking without being conspicuously trendy or offering change for its own sake. Scallops with truffle sauce is a gently luxurious signature starter. Grilled vegetables with olive oil and herbs is less decadent, but no less delicious. A plate of Italian cheeses demonstrates how important good ingredients are to this cuisine. Pastas are imaginative; try tagliatelle with duck ragout, or angel hair with crab and chilli, a gutsy combination and hardly angelic. The flambeed flesh in mixed meat espanada will seduce dyed-in-the-wool carnivores; more restrained palates may prefer John Dory with an intriguing walnut sauce. If you are having dessert, make a beeline for the chocolate mousse, as it's one of the best in Bangkok, dark and bitter-sweet, almost fruity.
