Food
This is Thai food unashamedly modified for the Western palate, although some might argue that it pushes this policy to extremes. Pomelo salad derives a bit of body from a garnish of crispy onions. but tod mun, deep-fried crab patties, seems to be devoid of chilli, essentially making them ishcakes; Ok, but not tod mun. tom yum is presented not only without spices, but without enough lime juice to give this classic soup its crucial sourness, and the result is very bland. green chicken curry is better; not hugely spicy, but with enough of a kick to distinguish it from a stew or casserole. A dessert of fried bananas is light and tasty. Plenty of foreigners are nervous about the chillis and other flavours that characterise Thai food, and only a purist would complain about tourist-friendly cuisine. But there comes a point where the adaptation moves so far from the original that it starts to defeat the purpose.
Setting
Dine in a pleasant old wooden house, decorated with photos from the studio that shares the premises; or in a garden leafy enough to shut out the soi outside.
