Food

Nomad's proprietor, Myriam Grace, aims to instruct Bangkok's sensation seekers in the subtly spiced mysteries of North African cuisine. The best bet, especially for novices, is to start with one of the mixed plates, which give hints of the tastes to follow. Berber platter, for example, offers meat, fish and cheese selections in crispy filo pastry, and is great for sharing. Chicken tajine, with the salty/bitter notes of preserved lemons, is a classic Moroccan main course. There are also several tasty variations on couscous, as well as succulent meat brochettes. Several French specialities feature as well. Try aioli (garlic mayonnaise with steamed fish and vegetables) or pave de boeuf (sauteed beef fillet). Baklava (pastries with honey and nuts) is a tempting finale, although orange salad with dates and cinnamon is light and refreshing-and rather more virtuous.

Setting

A corner of a Casablanca souk on a Bangkok sidestreet. Coloured lights, hubblebubble pipes and tented ceilings add to the effect.
