The cuisine is Thai fusion with the
emphasis on stylish presentation. As a starter, kung
sarong, or crispy, fried shrimp wrapped in golden
noodles, is perfectly cooked and the sweet lemon
dip gives it a nice punch. Lemongrass salad with river
prawns and cashew nut is spicy but not too hot and
goes very well with a white wine. For the main course try
one of the many freshly prepared curries. Mahanaga's
secret recipe, marinated grilled chicken panaeng with
sweet lychee, is maybe too mild and sweet for some but
the curry goes well with wok-fried mixed mushrooms,
cashews and dried chilli. For dessert, both mango and
sticky rice and khao mawe (deep-fried banana with
vanilla ice cream) are fusion based and may disappoint
die-hard fans of the originals.
2 Sukhumvit
Set over three buildings surrounding a treecovered courtyard, the evening ambience makes this an ideal place to introduce foreign guests to Thai cuisine. The bar area and upstairs private room have a cosy retro atmosphere.
