FOOD:

Guacamole made with hass avocados is the perfect way to start the meal, with freshly made tortilla chips. Baked oysters with spinach chipotle salsa, seared Phuket yellowfin and grilled filet mignon are also worth a look. But a combination plate is the best way to go. Los Cabos combo offers an asada (steak) taco and chicken enchilada. Starving Surfer combo has crispy carnitas (shredded pork) taco, chilli relleno and beef enchilada. The standout here is the delicious relleno, a poblano chilli stuffed with cheese, lightly battered and fried. The combos come with rice and beans; the boiled beans are tasty, but it would be nice to have some mashed up frijoles refritos, too. A dish also done well here is tender mesquite-smoked pork ribs with smoked jalapeno sauce. For dessert, try churros or white chocolate flan.

SETTINGS:

Bangkok has yet to see a real Mexican restaurant of the sort to be found in California or Mexico itself. But Los Cabos hits enough right notes to stand as perhaps the best in town. It's a great place to get together with friends to enjoy tropical drinks and good food.
