FOOD

Le Beaulieu is an engaging newcomer well worth a visit. Owner-chef Herve Frerard uses flavour-rich, imported ingredients to make distinctive French Riviera Mediterranean dishes that resonate on the palate. Grilled violet artichoke with rocket salad, parmesan and basil oil is a delightful cold starter while artichoke barrigoule is a scrumptious mix of sun-dried tomatoes and lightly charred goat cheese with rocket. Fresh pan-fried duck liver comes in a rich, caramelised apple and bitter orange reduction. Vegetarians will love poached white French asparagus with fresh chervil. Seafood lovers can try a number of imported dishes, notably Maine lobster with champagne. Close with warm, browney-gooey melting chocolate souffle, or a platter of French cheeses served with olives, nuts and poached pears.
