Le Banyan is renowned for high-quality Australian and US meat and shellfish served in mouth-watering French style. Bruno Bischoff's warm welcome and wine pairing advice sets the tone for the cooking of Michel Binaux. The menu is doused in cream and brandy, but leaves one satisfied, not stuffed. Foie gras is soft, buttery and gently pan-fried, its rich flavours enhanced by rocket salad and raspberry vinegar. Lobster bisque with cognac is light and sea-scented. Le Banyan is most famous for its pressed duck Rouen-style, having served over 21,000 in 20 years, but its other duck, beef and lamb dishes are big draws, too. Served in an armagnac-scented red wine sauce, chateaubriand is dreamy tenderloin with marrow and foie gras mousse croutons. Close with dark chocolate souffle or French apple tart with sabayon and a digestif, of course.

Le Banyan is a welcome refuge from the nearby bustle of Sukhumvit. A simply decorated, cosy but not cramped room, with seating for 40, overlooks a lush tropical garden.
