Under the close supervision of Angela Sciacovelli in the kitchen, the food at La Piola is authentic, rustic Italian. Although a set menu is offered for lunch and dinner and a selection of 11 classic pizzas from the wood-fired oven is available, the key note of the restaurant is the menu prepared by Angela which changes daily. A mainstay of each menu is Italian cold cuts and grilled vegetables drizzled with olive oil, which makes an excellent starter. Look out for minestrone; it reaches new heights with the addition of a sprinkling of parmesan cheese. Rigatone al forno, slightly overbaked, is outstanding. Depending on the day in question, the main course could comprise separate dishes of mushrooms stuffed with spinach and ricotta, shrimps and capesante served together on a shell and roast pork enlivened with a chilli/tomato infused gravy. The spectrum of tastes is stunning. If there is room for dessert, tiramisu plus limoncello and coffeecello round off the meal perfectly.

Setting

The new incarnation of La Piola, just a few metres from the old one, is decorated in warm, rustic tones giving a cosy taverna feel.
