FOOD
Kisso's menu features a large selection of sushi and sashimi, as well as steamed, grilled and broiled dishes, some with slightly unusual takes on Japanese favourites. The teppanyaki counter set apart from the main dining room offers an interesting selection as does the 10-course table d'hote menu. For starters, try spider roll, deep-fried, soft-shell crab with avocado, flying fish roe and cucumber, delightful with sushi rice and vinegar. The hot appetisers, agedashi tofu, and konnyaku dengaku, beautiful kebabs with green tea, red bean and miso sauce, are good too. Vegetarian miso ojiya, bean paste porridge, is a tasty break between courses. Gindara netsuke done Kyoto-style, grilled black cod preserved in bean paste, is worth a try, as is unique hotaru ika okizuke, Japanese squid pickled in salt.
