Food

Specialising in northern Indian Mughlai cuisine, Indian Host has family links to Indian Hut on Surawong Road and shares some of its menu offerings. The food here is tasty and hearty, but rests at journeyman level as far as subtlety and complexity in its flavours goes. Kabuli raan is leg of baby lamb marinated in rum, cumin and cardamon, then slow cooked. It's nicely tender and goes well with cooling mixed raita. Fish tikka lahori features chunks of tender marinated freshwater fish cooked in a clay oven. Chicken curry is cooked tender and the sauce is smoothly rich, but could be a bit spicier so be sure to specify your heat preference when ordering. Jain-style malai kofta is prepared with no onion or garlic; the rich cashew gravy is yummy, but the dumplings could be served slightly warmer. Saffron basmati rice and nan are both standard versions. Aromatic kulfi is a nice way to finish if you still have room.

Setting

Adjacent to the Grand Mercure, with glass walls and ceiling in front, the contemporary main dining area is bathed in sunlight at lunchtime with views of the bustling soi outside.
