Il Tartufo means truffle, and the
fragrant fungus is all over the menu. For example,
from the starters, consider truffle soup, tuna tartare
with rocket and black truffle, or best of all, a generous
portion of bacon-wrapped scallops on truffle sauce;
three flavoursome components finding balance and
harmony. The theme continues into the main courses,
truffle sauce enhancing beef striploin, but there is
respite from the richness. Cod with lemon sauce is
substantial but not overwhelming, and there are several
imaginative pasta offerings, such as tagliatelle with crab
and coconut, which edges into fusion territory without
embarrassing itself. Not-bad tiramisu appears on the
dessert menu, but the star is lemon ice cream that
splits to reveal a deliciously oozy limoncello filling, like a
sherbet-dusted poached egg.
A light, airy, family-oriented restaurant that mixes Italian standards with a few interesting twists. There's even a playground where children can shake off the calories while adults are piling them on.
