SETTING

Dark wood panelling and pale yellow seating lend a sombre look to this establishment, making it a somewhat generic place to feed, though the comfort level is pleasant.

FOOD

Adequate Japanese fare with some fanciful dishes and wild surprises, though most choices are fairly light and not filling. Hiyashi wakame is a cold seaweed salad with sesame seeds and oil that is scrumptious. Gindara teriyaki is grilled cod fish, very good, soft and moist, but smothered in too much soysauce. Mixed mushrooms is salty but good and heightened by black pepper and tiny fried onions. Shake teriyaki is a fine grilled salmon, with its own appetiser, vegetables, rice, pickles, miso soup and dessert. ''Assorted dainty delicacies'' is best experienced rather than described and presents a range of flavours. Recommended for dessert is kuri yaki, five excellent grilled, sweet chestnuts.
