Carpaccio di bue al parmigiano, paper-thin beef fillet marinated in fragrant olive oil and lemon with parmesan, is a classic starter with the quality of the ingredients shining through. Moroccan octopus with tomato, potato, celery and taggia olives features alluring marinated tender tentacles. Great for sharing is porcini risotto, made the old-fashioned way, stirred continually until it reaches that optimum creamy, al dente stage. For seafood lovers rolled fillet of lemon sole and rock lobster has a pleasing array of flavours and textures. Charcoal-grilled baby lamb chops perfumed with garlic and rosemary proves Gianni's skill in the meat department as well. Hot Valrhona chocolate fondant with orange is just one of many fine desserts that top a delightful meal.

Gianni's successful tenure as one of Bangkok's top Italian restaurants is a double-edged sword. It might seem sedate compared to some of the newer, hipper Italian venues that keep popping up, but Gianni continues to serve gourmet food that excites first-timers and satisfies a devoted local clientele.
