Flava has subjected Western and Thai favourites to a rethink, without descending to mere gimmicks to please the hip clientele. Chilled cantaloupe soup with mint is an unlikely but refreshing starter, although its natural sweetness means it could easily serve as a dessert. hor mok salmon is juicy and piquant; the fish quenelles are served on lemongrass skewers, rather than in the standard banana-leaf wrap. Moving to the main courses, gaeng som offers a delicious contrast between delicate sea bass, pungent, tamarind-infused broth and crunchy papaya salad. Angus beef fillet is cooked to perfection, as are the baby vegetables that accompany it. Mozzarella risotto with avocado is creamy comfort food par excellence. Desserts are a little less successful. ginger creme brulee and chocolate tart are both flavor some, but slightly stodgy.

Setting

Eclectic decor with mosaics, lock paper and stripey carpet adorning the walls, and indirect, orangey lighting remind you that you're in the Bangkok manifestation of a New York boutique hotel. Say hello to the blue-and-white tiger.
