Best known for delicious cakes, Coffee Beans by Dao still draws the crowds for some of the savoury specialities. Larb soft-shell crab is an interesting East-West fusion, with crispy crabmeat being tossed in with roasted ground rice, creating a complex of sweet, salty, sour and spicy flavours. Those who prefer a more subtle dish will enjoy Tasmanian grilled salmon with balsamic dressing, as the vegetables are fresh with yummy pieces of avocado thrown in as well. A heavier, creamier dish is black ink spaghetti with river prawn sauce, which is a meal on its own as the portion is quite generous. Dessert here is a must; choose white strawberry cheesecake or vanilla crepe cake, layers of crepes and cream piled on to each other for a delectable treat.

SETTINGS:

The two-floor Ruamrudee branch of this popular chain is well maintained and well lit. The decor is delicate, with lots of mirrors and floral detail. The staff is friendly, but seems a little stressed as the place is usually full.
