Perhaps a trifle overzealous with
the array of ambitious dishes close to the heart and
stomach of enthusiastic Singaporean food lovers, owner
Gunawan Budiawan-a Thai national but for 15 years
an honorary Singaporean-is still in the experimental
stages of reclaiming classics like rojak and XO sauce.
Freshly sliced tofu cut with a salty-sour taste of lime is
a mildly enjoyable starter. The signature Bumbu claypot
is the pick of the menu, with an appealing mixture of
meats, chilli and ginger over a healthy bed of rice. Bak
kut teh (literally pork bone tea) is a peppery soup that
will soothe away most problems.

New to the Bangkok scene, Bumbu serves a young, diverse Thai crowd intrigued by Singaporean, Indonesian and Malaysian food. With a funky art deco vibe and chandeliers made of cutlery, this restaurantcafe makes conversation light, fun, and friendly.
