Blue Velvet fuses Italian, Japanese and Thai cuisine in unexpected and quirky ways. A long line of must-try Asian-inspired spaghetti dishes dominates the menu, such as spaghetti larb calamari, but a departure from the pasta is also rewarding. Maki beef roll offers a crunch of asparagus stalks stuffed inside strips of tender browned beef, marinated in a soy sauce. Chi tortilla is an unusual mixture of deepfried soft tortilla shells wrapped around peppers and imitation crab, and topped with two types of roe. For a main course with a bit of drama, order dory parcel and await the aromas of fish and green onion cooked in white wine that burst forth as the waiter tears open the cooking pouch. Be warned that there is no dessert menu, and after-dinner offerings are minimal at best.
