Blue Elephant pays special
attention to its ingredients, with options for free-range
chicken and organic local vegetables and herbs. Start
with understated rice field catfish and prawn salad, a
delightful blend of light and crispy fried fish and prawns,
tossed with organic lemongrass and ginger in a spicy
sauce. Try tamarind duck, a simple but satisfying dish of
tender breast meat cooked to a lovely pink in the middle
and topped with Petchaboon province golden sweet
tamarind sauce, served with deep-fried, dark green kale.
Massaman lamb, famously referenced in a King Rama
II boat song, offers diners a familiar but unforgettable
Thai dish-rich coconut soup with fork-tender lamb and
potatoes. For dessert, sample Thai fruit sherbets, which
are surprisingly creamy and sweet.
In an opulent, multi-storey, colonial-era building, Blue Elephant, which has branches around the world, embraces everything essentially Thai. Gilded mythic creatures and fronds adorn the walls, and Thai classical music plays in the background. The ambience is sumptuous and serene.
