BTS Sala Daeng

A stay in this area gives you the access to the main shopping and entertainment segment of the Silom area, including Patpong. Office workers by day become bargain and thrill seekers by night, as the straight stretch comes alive with shops and stalls selling all manners of merchandise, great restaurants, bars, Thai massage parlours, crowded clubs and notorious sex shows.

Rising above the scene is the skytrain, which connects to the subway station at the end of Silom road. Just beyond it is Lumpini Park – the perfect daytime escape from the noise and pollution.

Why Did We Select This Hotel?

Dusit Thani Bangkok is a renowned five star hotel in the Silom District of central Bangkok which has 517 rooms, each with a Thai twist to them - think silk, teak wood and orchids. Although the rooms have a traditional feel to them, they have incorporated modern amenities for both business and leisure guests including complimentary internet in all rooms and Wi-Fi in public areas, flat-screen LCD TV, and bedside controls for the air-conditioner and blackout curtains. If given a choice, the rooms with the best views are those overlooking Lumpini Park, which is only a couple of minutes walk from the hotel.

The octagonal swimming pool is set in an attractive courtyard with plenty of blue and white striped sun loungers. At DFiT gym you will find state of the art equipment and squash courts, with staff on hand for personal training and to provide exercise classes including aerobics, tai chi and yoga. Several fine restaurants are a hallmark of Dusit Thani, from classic Thai to Pacific coastal cuisine.

What We Loved:

  • Close to both MRT and BTS for travel around the city. Minutes walk from Silom's buzzing nightlife and plenty of restaurants
  • Unparalleled sports facilities including swimming pool, golf school, squash, yoga, pilates, tai chi and aqua fit classes
  • Premium Spa offering the best of Thai and Western treatments and techniques

BTS Chong Nonsi

Busy but not altogether bustling, the area of Silom near BTS Chong Nonsi - roughly in its middle - is populated by huge office tower blocks and corporate offices, and people scurrying about in suits. Lots of shops of marginal interest and decent restaurants strewn along this stretch - including seafood, Italian and, of course, Thai - as well as further afield, on nearby Sathorn and Narathiwat roads. A stay here puts you roughly midway between the riverside, in one direction, and Patpong's chaotic entertainment and shopping in the other. Both are in walking distance, but perhaps best reached via tuk-tuk or taxi.

Mid Range Hotels in Silom

For people want a full set of facilities but don’t expect perfection at every turn, these mid-range hotels are for you. Sure, you get a nice pool, room service, concierge, but the price is kept lower in different ways – for example, reduced selections at breakfast or slightly smaller guestrooms. The competition in Bangkok is so fierce that prices get reduced on five-star hotels pushing them into mid-range territory. But make no mistake, these are excellent hotels!
