Digital Gateway

This four-storey IT mall sits like a giant spaceship waiting to gobble up earthlings. The building’s futuristic design is part of its owner’s vision to create a digital lifestyle centre for displaying the latest IT gadgets as well as hosting IT-related events and activities. Besides big technology labels such as iStudio, True, Samsung, Fujitsu and Sony, you will find a lineup of independent shops offering IT accessories, sunglasses, computer games, digicams, camera lenses, and an entire floor’s space dedicated to Japanese eateries. Contrary to other IT malls around Bangkok, Digital Gateway has no counterfeit products; so, don’t come looking for them here.

Doi Tung Shop

This well-established brand is better known for its coffee than its fascinating lineup of handmade crafts – actually the cornerstone of the brand. Instead of pure function, Doi Tung crafts sport contemporary designs that feel resolutely Thai yet blend in with western-style homes, whether home accessories, hand-woven carpets, ceramics, mulberry paper stationery, or apparel. Most major shopping malls, such as Siam Paragon, The Emporium and Siam Discovery Center, carry Doi Tung products.

Limited edition gifts, designer gifts, wacky gifts – if you are in search of cool, one-off gifts, chances are Loft has got them. This Japanese retail brand arrived in Bangkok back in 1997 and has since revolutionised Thailand’s gift industry. Loft at Siam Discovery Centre stocks two floors of gizmos, including stationery, home accessories, IT gadgets, fashion accessories, beauty products and seasonal gifts. This extensive collection is so full of fresh ideas that you won’t want to leave without taking at least one item home.

Marco Tailor

One of the best custom tailor shops in Bangkok is Marco Tailor. Some claim their suits are equal to those on London's Savile Row. 430/33 Siam Sq., Soi 7, Siam Square.

The multi-storey MBK is probably Bangkok's most legendary shopping mall, popular with both tourists and locals. Eight floors packed with 2,000 shops that sell everything from clothing, fashion accessories, handbags, leather products and luggage to furniture, mobile phones, electric appliances, cameras, stationery and DVDs. MBK (launched in 1986) is a beehive of activity, especially on weekends, when half of Bangkok converges to shop for bargains. It's not as up-market or stylish as neighbouring Siam Discovery, Siam Centre and the glitzy Siam Paragon, but it offers a mind-boggling range of goods spread over 89,000 square metres and is considerably less expensive. Hailing the creativity of aspiring and established Thai fashion designers, Mob.F brings together individual fashion labels and presents them under the umbrella concept of ‘Mob.F The Fashion Rebels in Mob We Trust’. Promising trend-setting, rather than trend-following, clothing, accessories, bags and shoes, Mob.F carries 42 one-off labels, and still counting, targeting youth and the artsy type. Pleats Please by Issey Miyake

Pleats may sound so yesterday to you, but hold judgment until you see the ‘evolved’ collection at Pleats Please. Famous the world over for elegant and graceful designs, Pleats Please took the world’s fashion industry by the storm when it was first launched in 1993. The showroom at Siam Discovery, contrasting the glossy, all-white interiors with vividly coloured pieces, brings immediately to mind the cover of a shiny fashion magazine. More than just eye candy, though, Pleats Please’s clothing is also practical, especially for travellers on the move who prefer to pack light.

Prayer Textile Company

Napajaree Suanduenchai studied fashion design in Germany and more than two decades ago opened the Prayer Textile Gallery in her mother's former dress shop. She makes beautiful items in naturally dyed silks and cottons and also sells antique fabrics from Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia. Phayathai Rd. Near Siam Square.


This Thai product design brand founded in 1994 by a group of advertising creative types is well known for its thoughtful collection of products that fuses a ‘less is more’ philosophy and the Thai sense of playfulness. Under the Propaganda brand, everyday objects, such as doorstops, salt and pepper shakers, drinking glasses, key chains, are turned into designer pieces that add a quirky touch to your home. As the very first Thai brand to debut in the international product design scene back in 1996, Propaganda has achieved an iconic status.

Ribbee Boutique

Wedged in among the IT stores at the Digital Gateway is an independently run shop with an impressive collection of imported Ukuleles. Often mistaken for small guitars, these string musical instruments originated in Hawaii have garnered a sizeable fan base in Bangkok, and Ribbee Boutique is where these Ukulele enthusiasts pick up their gears. Catering to beginners, hobbyists, all the way to professional Ukulele players, Ribbee Boutique’s collection runs from a few thousand baht to ten thousands of baht. Sephora Bangkok is an exciting new opening at the Siam Center, and one that has been eagerly anticipated for months. As well as bringing their own brand of colourful beauty and bath products to Thailand, they also work exclusively with some of the best international brands in the world. Located on the ground floor of the shopping mall, only a few short steps from the BTS at Siam, Sephora Bangkok is busy and bright, and the crowds look set to stay.
