What to Buy and Where to Shop in Bangkok

Shopping in Bangkok is an experience to thrill and delight the most discerning of shoppers - whatever it is you're looking for. From the gleaming chrome and towering size of modern, air-conditioned malls, to the hustle and bustle of its famously buzzing street markets, Bangkok has all kinds of places to blow your baht. With everything from antiquities and the latest pair of trainers to designer jewellery available, Bangkok has an equally exhaustive, and potentially exhausting, variety of things to buy.

Don't miss our 'Top 10 Shopping Experiences in Bangkok' feature. Whatever you choose to purchase, and wherever you may want to pursue it, be sure to polish your bargaining skills and sport a big smile.

Universal Tailors - Silom

Universal Tailors

Universal Tailors in Silom is one of Bangkok’s leading traditional bespoke tailoring houses that believes in producing the finest suits and shirts using highest quality wools and cottons. There is a saying in Thailand: ‘people don’t change their barber or their tailor’, and as proof, Universal Tailors boasts thousands of loyal clientele around the world in its 30 years of business.

Acquiring tailor-made clothes in Bangkok can be tough as there are hundreds of so-called professional tailors that offer too-good-to-be true deals to attract hapless walk-in customers. But thanks largely to the internet there is now more awareness among foreigners travelling to Bangkok, and one place that comes especially recommended is Universal Tailors. Expats and foreigners get the true bespoke experience here and real value for money.

Bangkok Fashion Outlet

Bangkok Fashion Outlet looks very much like all the other malls in the city, but at this one quality products have huge – unbelievable, almost – discounts of up to 90%. The outlet is part of the Central Group, one of the biggest retailers in Thailand, who have over 20 shopping malls and department stores around the country. This is their first discount outlet in central Bangkok, and it’s very easy to get to. Located on Silom Road, the closest BTS skytrain station is Surasak, around a five minute walk from the shopping centre. It’s open every day from 11:00 until 20:00.
