Bangkok Computers & Audiovisual
Find your ultimate bargain...
A wide range of computer products, audiovisual equipment and related paraphernalia can be found at Bangkok's numerous IT and Electronic malls and outlets, and sometimes at jaw-dropping low prices. A scandalous amount of hi-tech wares from across Asia make their way here, and provide a shopping experience bound to satisfy the savviest technology junkie. Despite crackdowns, there is still a torrent of computer hardware and software, CD's and DVD's of questionable origin or authenticity being sold.
Beware of too-good-to-be-true deals, as they are often just that. And when a newly-acquired, malfunctioned laptop is taken back for repairs, you may find yourself talking to a brick wall. Be sure to make purchases from reliable and legitimate vendors / outlets, and that you receive proof of guarantee. For the most part, prices are relatively cheaper than in most Western countries. Software deals at some places are, however, literally a steal. Beware that copy software without the necessary registration numbers or paperwork can be confiscated by customs (in Thailand or once you get back home), and in some instances heavy fines are also imposed.
Most malls and department stores have outlets (sometimes an entire floor) where the latest audiovisual and electronic equipment are showcased, from plasma screens to hands-free mobile (ear)phones. Armed with this knowledge, explore the outlets below for some of Bangkok's best deals on computers, software and audiovisual equipment and all kinds of related gadgets. Good luck! |
The mother of them all. Walking through the main entrance of this multi-storey IT complex, you'll be greeted with the latest copy software for sale (100 - 150 baht), along with DVD's, MP3 CD's, and anything else that can be put on disk. If you're looking for a new wireless mouse, USB stick, CD-Rom drive, or whatever you can think of, sift your way through as many vendors as possible to compare prices and find the best deal. Most IT brands are well-represented, and the safest places to buy from are credible and established outlets. The secret is to take your time, and to compare prices. To put it simply, Pantip is a must, especially if you' re shopping on a budget. Even just for the experience, it's well worth your time to explore the sheer variety of IT products on offer, packed from floor to ceiling.
