Sathorn Bangkok Review

Reasons for coming to Sathorn are primarily to eat or sleep, with many of Bangkok’s finest hotel situated around here there are of course, numerous world-class dining options. Other than this there are few traditional sight-seeing opportunities, the ground of Sathorn is reserved for high-rise offices (particularly banks), new developments apartment blocks and foreign embassies.

Sathorn is home to a number of upscale hotel bars where drinks can be enjoyed from an elevated setting (Vertigo, the Banyan Tree) or amid sleek and sharp contemporary design (The Met Bar). However, that is just one end of the scale. True to Bangkok’s divergent nature a cocktail in a high-so, magnet bar can be followed by a 60 baht beer just around the corner, packed with a diverse crowd of backpackers, Bangkok professionals and an ever growing number of bright young things.

The area is popular with much of the expat community who come to escape the trappings of tourist Bangkok, so you can expect to find a more low-key atmosphere than that of say, Silom or Nana, but nonetheless enthralling. Read more... 

Sight-seeing is not the main highlight of the Sathon area. Starting from Lumpini Park and Lumpini Boxing Stadium at one end, the entire stretch has a few attractions including the lifestyle-office complex at Q House Lumpini, Holy Rosary Church, home of the former Thai Prime Minister Kukrit Pramoj, and the Sathon River Pier where you can take the river taxi to explore other attractions along the Chao Phraya River. Read more... 

Home to an extensive lineup of luxury hotels and serviced residences, Sathon offers mostly fine-dining experiences. Banyan Tree Hotel is famous for its rooftop dining venue, Vertigo and Moon Bar, where you can take in panoramic views of the city from the 61st floor. La Scala at the Sukhothai Hotel is perhaps one of the best places to splurge on a memorable Italian meal. Further down, steps from the Surasak BTS Skytrain, there's the famous Thai restaurant and cooking school, Blue Elephant. Other more affordable options are tucked away in the sub-sois around the area, which are laden with reasonably priced restaurants that don’t compromise on taste or portion. Read more... 

Sathorn comprises a multitude of serviced apartments, luxurious hotels and quality, low-budget accommodation choices. For families and business travellers this is certainly an area you should consider when sourcing accommodation in Bangkok. Sathorn makes up much of Bangkok’s gleaming skyline, home to the distinctive Banyan Tree and the most recent property developments. Shopping is not the main highlight in Sathon area. Apart from hotel souvenir boutiques, there's not many other options available. The mixed development project or Life Centre at Q House Lumpini, on the corner of Sathon and Rama IV Road, is as close to a shopping mall as it gets. Inside, you will find a small lineup of restaurants, cafés, Fitness First health club and shops selling mainly cosmetics and healthcare products. Read more...
