Sathorn Nightlife
What to Do at Night in Sathorn
Many modish hotels and serviced apartments in Sathorn usually feature their own bars or clubs. The hip and classy Hu'u Bar at the Ascott Sathorn, and Zuk Bar at Sukhothai Hotel are among the city's best. One of Bangkok's most popular nightlife experiences is drinks at Vertigo, the trendy rooftop bar at Banyan Tree Hotel. The city views are fantastic (covered by the steep prices on the drinks menu), and well worth a visit. Get there before sunset and dress nicely if you want to get in (no beach shorts, vests, sandals or flip-flops).
For a full-blown racy nightlife scene, however, head to Silom and visit Patpong's notorious go-go bars. Rainbow boys can also have their fun too, at Silom Soi 2 and 4.
Tawandang Brew House
With a seating capacity of 1,600, you will be hard pushed to find a bigger drinking venue in Bangkok than this German beer hall, that presents its own brand of ‘musical theatre’. With live entertainment that includes singing, dancing and instrumentals, the stage show is a visual extravaganza well worth seeing.
Tawandang takes its cue from a traditional German brewery while ironically attracting a predominantly Thai audience. The food here, (pork knuckles and som-tam come highly recommended) consists of Thai snacks that go down particularly well with beer or two. Open seven nights a week, the place attracts a regular crowd throughout the week and whether you venture in on a Wednesday or a Saturday evening you will find the venue packed with people enjoying themselves. The general format is to eat, drink and dance, and in this respect you can’t really go wrong with a night out at Tawandang.
Address: 462/59 Nang Linchi Road
Opening Hours: 20:00-01:00

Wongs
If you can imagine the Moon Bar at Vertigo being one end of the nightlife scale in Sathorn then Wongs would be the other end. Having been open over twenty years, this Bangkok institution has seen some changes. All of which are documented on the walls which are covered with photographs of customers, both past and present.
Open until the last person leaves the bar has a policy of drink now and pay later, but few escape without paying later, so we suggest you pay as you go or keep your bottles together and pay when you leave to avoid confusion.Wongs has one of the best music collections in Bangkok, much of it still on VCR. A nostalgia inducing bar, you can expect to spend the evening watching old Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan gigs.
Address: Soi Sribumphen
Opening Hours: 10:00 – till the last person leaves

Hu'u
Catering to the city's elite, the atmospheric Hu'u bar (pronounced 'who') oozes sophistication. Dim violet tones and dark wood floors set the tone, with Thai silk-upholstered sofas, tall-bar and a striking liquor shelf rounding off the ever-so stylish ambiance of this two-storey atrium lounge. A mezzanine restaurant upstairs serves international cuisine, but snacks are also served in the bar.
The impressive drinks menu offering over 150 cocktail concoctions will keep you busy, and prices are not staggeringly expensive like at other places of similar caliber. DJ's play proper nu-jazz and chill-out tunes, making it a great place for a pre-club tipple, or to impress your date or business client.
Address: 1st & 2nd floor, The Ascott, 187 South Sathorn Road

Met Bar
When it first opened in 1998, London's Met Bar became the hottest nighttime haunt west of Ibiza. Now its newest sister, The Met Bar Bangkok, delivers the same for the Asian capital, answering a sophisticated need for privacy and energy in a space reserved for hotel guests and members only (although they are known to be flexible).
At night, it morphs into a sultry, lounge-style member’s bar with deep chairs and wine-dark walls. Lighting is soft and moody. Bar staff - 'mixologists' - create bespoke Martinis while headline DJs spin worldwide lounge sounds. Drinks start at 200 baht and there's no cover charge. At its busiest and best when hosting an international act or one-off event.

Vertigo – Moon Bar
Situated on the rooftop of the Banyan Tree, the 360 degree panorama offers a bird’s eye view of Bangkok, providing the perfect opportunity to enjoy some sunset cocktails 61 floors above ground level. Here, you really get the sense that you are floating mid air with the cool night’s breeze the bar is built in a way where as there is just a sheet of glass between you and vertical drop.
It is however, extremely safe and nor the sort of place you are likely to have an accident. You can choose between the bridge that links the restaurant and bar to enjoy a cocktail or up on the decking surrounding the bar where sofas and plush seats offer the perfect base to enjoy the view.

Joe Louis Puppet Theatre
This is unlike any puppet performance you have ever seen. Instead of remaining behind screens during the performance, the puppeteers are an integral part of the show. Traditional puppets give performances of the Ramayana (or Ramakien in Thai), the Indian epic tale, drenched in all kinds of intriguing plots. (Read more)
