The InterContinental Hotel Review

Bangkok Hotel Reviews

The InterContinental is not only one of Bangkok finest hotel brands, but one of the world's too. It's a leader in delivering the essentials for any memorable hotel stay – comfort, convenience and of course, enjoyment. The hotel's recent revamping has seen the property's interior and identity revitalized with a modern twist, while still retaining its classic values.

What’s it like?

To characterize the InterContinental interior with a theme it would definitely be ‘old-school glamour’. Fusing ostentatious lighting features with mirrored surfaces, the lighting highlights the variety of textures on display, the look is both stylish and sexy and somewhat cosmopolitan.

The international atmosphere of the hotel is in part due to the multinational clientele but more so a consequence of the drinking and dining venues throughout the hotel. A Cuban-inspired Cigar Bar and the Mediterranean Grossi Trattoria, see to this.

Essentially the hotel, has a ‘jet set’ vibe to it, you get the sense that you are in capable hands. This notion is proven when your wake-up call arrives in the form of a knock on the door and a freshly brewed coffee (or tea), the perfect beginning to the day.

Where is it?

If you want to be in the thick of it, one could not ask for a better location when in Bangkok. Situated on Ploenchit Road, adjacent to the Erawan Shrine, the hotel occupies prime land in the city due to its proximity to shopping attractions such as Central World and Gaysorn. Chidlom BTS is quite literally on the doorstep, leaving Siam (the land of megamalls) just one stop away and the rest of the city within easy reach.

Just a ten-minute drive from the buzz of Patpong and Silom's hottest night spots, the hotel stands in an area where there is a high concentration of world-class restaurants, comparable to London’s Oxford Street or New York’s Fifth Avenue.

What are the Rooms like?

Ultimately the accommodation is where a hotel earns its stripes, and the InterContinental definitely raises the bar in this respect. Standard amenities and services in all rooms include; pillow menus, CD players, Cable TV and DVD players, a work space with relevant technology links including high-speed internet connection and speaker phone. The contemporary Thai design captures the classic ostentatious Orient, while still being understatedly elegant.

There is nothing standard about these rooms with their spacious and rich interiors; it is the generous view of Bangkok that gives rooms a distinct five-star edge. The same comfort philosophy is applied to Standard rooms as well as to Premium Rooms and Suites. The luxuriant beds are covered in the finest linen and essentially guestrooms are well designed, capturing the balance between functionality and aesthetic appeal.

Premium Level
Each of the 100 Club InterContinental guestrooms succeeds in providing world-class accommodation and services, perfect for the business traveller. Personalized help in the form of a butler service and use of the Executive Floor where topical literature can be enjoyed with your buffet breakfast and complimentary snacks, afternoon tea, evening cocktails and canapés. Situated on the 37th floor, these treats are all accompanied by a brilliant view of Bangkok.

For those fortunate enough to have the InterContinental Suite experience, it is certainly one you will want to return to. Combining the latest technology with home comforts and an enormous amount of room to move around in, comfort and luxury are beautifully expressed within this space. Bathrooms feature TV’s as, incredibly, do the mirrors, so keeping track of world affairs is constantly possible.

Restaurants and Bars

The hotel has some of the best drinking and dining venues in Bangkok and these are also frequented by outside guests. Understandably, the hotel has recruited some of the most creative chefs in the business, each excelling at producing their respective cuisines. Each dining establishment has a unique identity which, after the delicious food, is also expressed through their interiors.

Grossi Trattoria
The newest recruit to the hotel and the city’s Mediterranean dining scene, this basement venue feels like something straight out of Amalfi and the food is pretty good too. With authenticity at the core of the menu, Chef Guy Grossi has created mouth-watering treats such as pizza, pastas, seafood and grills, with much of the ingredients imported form Australia and Italy. The wine list is typically Italian and extensive.

Fireplace Grill
This old-school venue has been charming guests for over 40 years and is the sort of place where you can definitely guarantee a good steak. Dimly lit, the restaurant includes two private dining rooms that have been branded by Penfolds Grange and Veuve Clicquot..

Summer Place
No five-star Asian hotel is without a Chinese restaurant. Summer Place is perfect for private and special occasions with its unique selection of private rooms.

Situated on the mezzanine floor, Espresso practices a pioneering dining concept in Bangkok, allowing guests to enjoy individual portions of dishes that are brought around for sampling. There will be no chance of you making the wrong choice. This is where the buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner are served.

The Deli
The Deli is a gourmet café and shop offering the freshest baked breads, soups, sandwiches, salads, cakes, and pastries as well as a range of teas and a mean cup of espresso.

Leisure Facilities

The health-and-fitness facilities at the hotel seek to serve the health and time conscious individual. Situated on the top floor, working out with a view surely adds to the experience. Group classes are available with personal trainers, who provide induction classes to the state-of-the-art technology.

Spa InterContinental is internationally recognised for being a leading brand within the industry. Combining Thailand’s signature treatments with international wellness practices, this urban retreat is the perfect antidote to a hectic day.

Function Facilities

With one of the largest hotel banqueting, meeting and convention facilities in the city, it’s easy to see why the InterContinental is the venue of choice for many International and Thai conferences and celebrations.

Featuring 22 spacious and well-equipped function rooms, the ballroom can accommodate up to 1,000 guests for drink receptions and 670 people for sit-down banquets. The star feature of the ballroom is the LED intelligence lighting system with up 16 million possible colours, surely the making of a memorable evening.

The InterContinental, Bangkok has successfully achieved the equilibrium between an aesthetically pleasing hotel that retains its five-star values and attempts no compromise in delivering its signature superior service.
