Enjoying a central location moments away from Patpong and Silom, Le Meridien offers the perfect respite to a chaotic stay in Bangkok. What’s it like?

The sensational design stands out immediately. Borrowing from the Pop Art of 60’s cool, it achieves a balance between retro chic and modern warmth, while still operating on a less-is-more basis.

A leading five-star brand, one gets the feeling that one is in capable hands, primarily because the hotel seeks to redefine the idea of the ‘hotel experience’ through sound, scent and visual effects. Every last detail of the hotel – from the print pressed façade, to the lobby dimensions, to the in-room prayer card – has been carefully thought out.

Where is it?

Situated just a stone's throw away from Patpong Market, the hotel is a ten-minute walk from Sala Deang BTS, in Silom, it is also well placed and near Bangkok’s most sought-after attractions including Chinatown, the riverside temples and the Grand Palace.

What are the Rooms like?

Each of the 282 guestrooms has great personality; featuring warm fabrics, they offer boutique-style accommodation with sprawling views of Bangkok. Standard features in all rooms include LCD TV, touch-screen IP phone, WiFi, individually controlled air conditioning, ipod stations and IDD telephone.

Combining subtle Asian accents with a European backdrop, the interior really hits the spot.

For a more personal touch, each room features a tailored package with information on the city and hotel.

Vista

Each of the 209 standard Vista rooms measures in at 36sqm and features floor-to-ceiling windows. An electric blind, operated bedside, allows guests to control the amount of light within the room. Beds are king size and are smothered in soft cotton sheets, perfect for viewing the TV positioned directly ahead. Spacious marble bathrooms come with oversized bathtubs and separate rain showers.

Vista Plus

Situated on the corner of each floor, at 37sqm all of these 28 rooms offer that extra bit of space. Bathrooms are also more extensive, featuring both a shower and luxuriant tub.

Circular

An exercise in good design, the Circular Room does indeed feature a centrally located circular bed. Circular is enhanced by lighting features and floor-to-ceiling windows that reveal the most romantic of views – Bangkok by night.

Avantec Suite

Guests at the Avanatec Suite can enjoy the lap of luxury in this 78sqm room that includes separate living and sleeping areas along with sensational views of Bangkok.

Avantgarde Suite

Situated on the 23rd floor, the 165sqm Avantgarde Suite includes the hotel's signature floor-to-ceiling windows from where the entire city of Bangkok including the Chao Phraya River is visible. The Suite includes a dining table, steam room and two bathrooms. Advanced technological features include a central Bose sound system, iPod station, 42-inch Philips flat-screen televisions in the bedroom and DVD on demand as well as a coffee machine.

Grande Avant-garde Suite

Well placed with spectacular views on the 24th floor, this suite's living room features its own private pond, capped by a six-metre-high ceiling, adding a spacious feeling to the accommodation. Set within 165sqm of space, the Grande Avant-garde suite offers guests a steam room and a well-stocked pantry with a refreshment centre. It is also equipped with extensive technological features.

Restaurants and Bars

Latitude 13

Chic and contemporary, Latitude 13 seeks to redefine the hotel lobby experience through sensory factors, such as scent, sound and lighting. Here is a great place to absorb the calming balance between design and space.

Bamboo Chic

The hotel's signature restaurant combines both Asian and what is described as ‘tomorrows Europe’ influences. The menu comprises Japanese cooking methods alongside coastal Chinese and is both a bar and a restaurant. In synch with the Le Meridien style, it is an exercise in innovational design.

Tempo

Open from 00:10-23:00 Tempo attracts both outside and in-house guests with its customised martinis, free WiFi and an assortment of newspapers. It's a great space to kick back in.

Leisure Facilities

Facilities for your comfort and convenience include a sixth-floor luxurious spa with seven circular treatments rooms with a variety of therapies, including massages and facials. On the same level is the outdoor swimming pool. Set within landscaped grounds, the plush sun loungers are perfect for relaxation. Both the spa and pool are great ways to follow a workout at the urban-style fitness centre on the same floor.

Business Facilities

Business facilities feature two rooms and 300sqm dedicated to business and private functions, equipped with presentation and communication technologies such as Touch Screen IP phone including a built-in LCD projector as well as a 40-inch LCD screen in the boardroom to provide flexibility when hosting meetings and social events. Refreshments and menus can be tailored to suit individual needs.

Verdict

'Stylish', 'sleek' and 'sophisticated' are three words that sum up this hotel. Le Meridien does not fall into the style-over-substance trap, as some design hotels do; everything from the service to the accommodation to the drink and dining options matches the superb aesthetic appeal of the hotel.
