Spa Cuisine Cooking School
Eating gourmet spa cuisine in one of Bangkok's luxurious spas provides a wonderful, health-giving experience, but don't you agree that the key to long term well-being lies in being able to cook your own healthy, nutritious food at home?
If so, then the Mandara Academy of Spa Cuisine is for you. The first cooking school of its kind in Bangkok, the Mandara Academy can open the door to a healthier lifestyle by showing you the healthy secrets to be found in the careful combination of Asian and Western cuisines. Using only the freshest ingredients, organic fruits and vegetables, you will be shown how to ensure healthy eating that goes hand in hand with the serenity and well-being of spa pursuits.
The name 'Mandara' comes from Ancient Sanskrit legend about the gods' quest for the elixir of eternal youth and immortality. The Mandara Spa has embraced this legend by creating unique and exotic spa treatments that reflect the beauty, spirit and traditions of those ancient times and the soul and rituals of Asian culture.
The Mandara Spa journey
Located at the Bangkok Marriott Resort & Spa, the academy offers daily classes from 9:30 to 13:00 for up to 18 people. Under the tutelage of Executive Chef Ian Sherlack and his team of professional Thai spa chefs, you will be taught how to create balanced cuisine, about the therapeutic and taste benefits of Thai herbs, about sourcing organic ingredients, and, of course, how to prepare your own dishes at home.
After being greeted by a hostess and spa chef, your journey begins with a selection of chilled Thai herbal drinks and a cool lemongrass scented towel. Shortly after this welcome refreshment, you will be escorted to the Mandara Spa for a one-hour Bali Floral Oil Massage, surely the perfect way to begin your education in lasting serenity and well-being.
Once you're feeling both relaxed and balanced, a spa hostess will then escort you back to the Academy of Spa Cuisine. Learning under the watchful eyes of the professional Thai spa chefs, you will firstly be given an overview of, and then tips about, balanced cuisine. Here they will explain the positive and negative effects to the body of the various ingredients used, and how to prepare and preserve all the vitamins and minerals in your dishes. Next, a selection of menus offering Thai and Asian cuisine will be provided for you to learn how to cook while keeping an eye on the medical benefits. The menus are separated into meal periods, and a selection of healthy beverages will be served to you during this session. After you've had a go at cooking, you will then be able to enjoy the superb spa cuisine you have just made - the proof that healthy cuisine can truly taste great too!
A presentation by the chef, where you will receive a Mandara Academy of Spa Cuisine apron and recipes so that you can enjoy cooking spa cuisine for family and friends, will round off your journey into spa cooking.
Classes are from 9:30 to 13:00, but can be tailored to suit your itinerary. The cost is US$150 per person (prices are subject to tax and service charge).
