A house in Bangkok, as opposed to a townhouse or housing estate, is a detached, free-standing property which may be located anywhere from the city's suburbs to the central business district. These give you the greatest amount of space for a given price, but do remember that houses, especially around the CBD, are immensely more expensive and in far less supply than all other types of property.
It's also worth considering that houses require upkeep in the form of maintenance both inside and, if there's a garden, outside. Some, the bigger ones, will require live-in staff such as a maid, gardener and/or security guard. Also, though it may seem far-fetched and the drainage systems in Bangkok have been vastly improved, certain areas of the city still do flood during the rainy season - not such a concern when you live in an apartment but certainly one when looking to rent a house.
When it comes to finding a house to rent, an on-the-ground search will prove much more challenging than for high-rise buildings. While tower blocks are obvious from a distance, housing estates or stand-alone houses are usually not on main roads but tucked away down quiet sois, well out of sight. So, its recommended that you use an estate agent. It will save you time, energy and they will be able to present you with the best selection of homes to match your particular specifications and preferences. (see estate agents) |
