Anothai Restaurant

An Asian inspired nouveau-style restaurant, this eatery focuses on lighter fare, with a healthy menu offering both Asian and Western style dishes – mostly organic options. Tasty appetisers include spicy roasted eggplant and sesame dip. All salads are made with certified organic produce. Noodle dishes and pasta (lasagne and spaghetti) come in various well-chosen flavours, such as spinach and shitake lasagne. The health-inducing herbal teas are listed according to their powers - and the variety is daunting, and the display in the bakery section will want to make you carry half of it home.

The Cup

Featuring what some claim to be Bangkok’s only hydroponic salad bar, The Cup offers a variety of salads from classic Caesar, Greek and tuna to a smoked duck breast salad with blackberry and port sauce that is essentially a meal in itself. The restaurant is a hit with Hi-So ladies and executive expats who favour its British-style roast meat dishes, with all the trimmings and lashings of gravy.

The fixed-price lunch menu consisting of soup or salad, a choice of two or three main courses and a dessert will set you back less than most hotel buffet lunches. The Cups’ desserts are prepared daily and are an undisputed hit with customers.

Loong Foong

The extensive dim-sum menu attracts a loyal clientele at this upscale Chinese restaurant. Prawn mango rolls feature fresh spring rolls stuffed with fruit cubes and tiny seafood. Shredded abalone with mixed fruit salad presents this seafood as an appetiser and is a nice blend of tastes.

Sweet and sour pork is cooked in classic, familiar style with breaded chunks of meat in a tangy sauce amid red and green peppers, pineapple and onions. The menu is consistent in the sense that it’s all pretty delicious and dishes are generous in size.

Moom Muum

Combining cuisines from four colourful nations – Japan, India, Italy and Thailand, Moom Muum caters to a variety of culinary preferences. Described as a, ‘street dining room and bar’ the restaurant adopts a distinctly street vibe with black-washed walls layered with bold graffiti and a warehouse-style floor, finished off with white and leather furnishings.

Highlights from the four kitchens include a variety of freshly prepared sushi and thin-crust pizzas. If by chance you don’t want to eat but are keen to have a drink and take a break from shopping, the bar has a great beverage selection and the seating is pleasingly comfortable.

Rum Sai Restaurant

The definite highlight of this no-frills Thai-style restaurant is the all-you-can-eat 89 baht buffet. If you like some sort of interior concept with your food then Rum Sai should be avoided but for those who are happy for the food to take centre stage in the dining experience it comes highly recommended. Like many places in Thailand, the best food can often come from the worst-looking restaurants. This one, however, is at least clean and comfortable – perfect for a quick and easy feed. The food is great and you can also choose from a selection of live seafood. Drinks are not included in the price.

Somboon Seafood

Having been in business since 1969, this successful seafood franchise (there are four scattered around Bangkok) serves up the freshest fish dishes in town. Set in ample space, the food is served at a fast pace, even during peak hours. Don’t expect the staff to be overly friendly and attentive though, they’ll deliver the food accordingly but we can’t dress this place up as being anything other than a great seafood restaurant with a tellingly loyal clientele.

A favourite with Japanese and Chinese diners, dishes to choose from include goong ob woonsen (prawns baked with glass noodles), yellow curry crab and hoy jor (deep-fried crab meat and pork balls). If by chance you don’t feel like seafood there is a small selection of Chinese and Thai dishes.

La Truffe

All of the imported ingredients and each of the delectable dishes at this chic French eatery are overseen by Chef Nicholas Reynard. The Provence-imported ingredients and inspired menu features established French delights which include tender and juicy frog's leg provencale, laced with garlic and butter, ratatouille, lobster served with green asparagus and tender quail meat.

The desserts are equally impressive with French almond pudding with passion fruit purée highly recommended. The restaurant is cosy, using muted tones that ensure a refined atmosphere. Before or after dinner the Circle Bar does a mean cocktail and has an extensive wine list.
