Amari Orchid has been one of the star players of Pattaya’s luxury accommodation scene for years now, and the combination of expansive grounds with manicured gardens, two swimming pools, choice of four or five star accommodation and a renowned service ensures that Amari is still one of the finest hotels in the city. Located at the north end of Pattaya Bay, Amari Orchid Hotel is the first property you come to on Beach Road and offers a quiet retreat despite its beachfront location. Amari Orchid Hotel’s real selling point is the fact that it caters to all types of guest who require international standard service: families, business travellers and couples on a romantic getaway will all find the right type of accommodation and amenities.
RoomsWith a total of 523 rooms and suites, there are many options for guests to choose from. The original Garden Wing is classified as 4 star accommodation, and the 226 rooms are well furnished with a mixture of mahogany wood and natural-toned fabrics. The land around the Garden Wing is filled with plants and flowers (as you might expect from the name) however some of the rooms lack a balcony from which to enjoy the view. The rooms have unmistakable charm although you can tell they are a few years old. The newer – and more modern – Ocean Tower has 297 rooms, each with a private balcony, dark wood furniture and sleek glass and steel office desk.
Many rooms have an open bathroom with bath and separate shower for those who require a romantic touch, and even if you’re not planning to take a bath, the open floor space makes the 49m² Deluxe Ocean View rooms seem that much bigger. All rooms feature modern appliances; in both the Garden Wing, with its colonial, open-air terrace and low-rise apartments, and The Ocean Tower with its sleek and modern design, black tile floors and fashionable spot lighting.
There are two on-site restaurants within the grounds of the Amari Orchid: Mantra and Tavern by the Sea. Mantra is one of the most stylish and fashionable restaurants in Pattaya with a unique concept and design. The restaurant is decked out in dark red and black and has a series of cooking ‘islands’ around which your food is prepared. Diners can choose between regional specialities including sushi from Japan, stone-baked pizza from Italy and chicken chow-mien from China. The steak and lamb dishes are renowned from Mantra and this restaurant is a refined venue in a city known for its less-salubrious ones.
Tavern by the Sea is a no-nonsense sports pub and restaurant, with enough televisions to satisfy all the clientele at kick-off time of the weekend sports action. The décor is a little contrived, with faux American-style gridiron-football memorabilia in one corner and Premier League football in the other, but the beer is cold, sports are showing from morning to night, and the restaurant serves a varied selection of bar room favourites such as fish and chips, pizza, pasta and snacks like spicy chicken wings and potato wedges – just the thing after a week of rice dishes.
FacilitiesThe range and scope of the facilities at Amari Orchid really keeps this hotel ahead of its rivals, starting with the swimming pools – there’s one for swimming and another for lounging, also featuring a swim-up bar, whirlpool, and a Jacuzzi. Inside the Ocean Tower there is the Breeze Spa and Salon with a serene atmosphere. It stocks premium products from Europe and Asia to ensure that little extra luxury, with private rooms – including the honeymoon room with two beds and private whirlpool. The Kids Cave and Teen Town facilities beside the Garden Wing are among the biggest and most well developed children’s clubs in Pattaya with a range of activities including painting and a range of handicraft-making games, as well as a jungle gym and games consoles. There’s also banquet, meeting and conference facilities available in the Aranda Ballroom, which makes this hotel popular for weddings, and a reasonably well-equipped gym that is sufficient for a quick workout.
Whether you opt to stay in the colonial style Garden Wing or the more modern Ocean Tower, guests can trust the Amari brand to deliver everything expected of them. While there are hotels that offer a more luxurious, exclusive vibe and others still that offer more options for children, Amari Orchid offers the most complete set of amenities with impeccable service in Pattaya, so it’s no surprise that a lot of guests are returning customers.
