New Nordic Steaks & Grill is the fine dining outlet of the namesake hotel complex on Soi 4 off Phratamnak Road in Pattaya. It seriously tones down the brand’s usual vibrant orange livery, instead creating a cosy, classy environment in which to enjoy first-rate haute cuisine in comfort and style.
The restaurant is also part winery, which is plain to see from the walls lined with bottles and decorative wine barrels creating an old European style. These compliment the food nicely – particularly the steaks, which are the star of the show. Using 100 per cent imported New Zealand beef, there are six special preparations available, each priced at 450 baht. These include passion steak (tenderloin with passion fruit and red wine sauce), trio steak (three small tenderloin steaks with different rubs: Caribbean jerk, smoky paprika and Cajun dry spice) and the signature New Nordic steak (tenderloin with pumpkin and fried vegetables).

We tried the pepper steak, probably the simplest preparation, yet utterly delicious; beautifully cooked to remain juicy and tender. The fried vegetables were equally fine, being cooked as part of the meal to enhance the flavours instead of thrown on the side of the plate as an afterthought. Each of the steaks comes with your choice of six preparations of potato, including fondant, boiled, Gnocchi, mashed, fries or Gratian.
The menu at New Nordic Steaks & Grill has a number of other European fine dining favourites rarely found in Pattaya, including Jerusalem artichoke soup (275 baht), Bouillabaisse (270 baht), lamb rack Provençale (450 baht) and gremolata salmon (275 baht). The grill gets some use beyond just cooking up steaks, in preparing lamb shanks (450 baht), snow fish (475 baht) and the VIP burger (hamburger served with coleslaw, barbecue sauce, bacon, parmesan cheese and French fries – 260 baht). There is also a spit roast barbecue on the Spanish-themed Thursday nights for 299 baht while all dishes are two for the price of one on Wednesdays.
The desserts are well worth leaving some space for and include the impressive Parfait a la orange (175 baht). Served with marinated oranges and chocolate ice cream, it has such vibrant, powerful flavours conflicting in your mouth that it is almost overwhelming.
As part of the New Nordic hotels complex, the restaurant’s main entrance is not immediately apparent from the street as it faces out across the main swimming pools. However, the signature orange colour scheme of the resort makes it impossible to miss on the right-hand side as you travel down the road and the illuminated sign will guide you to New Nordic Steaks & Grill.
