Family-Managed Fine Dining Restaurant in Jomtien

    0

Café des Amis Pattaya is somewhat of a secret restaurant in Pattaya, although due to the high quality of dining here, its growing fame is irrepressible. The skilled chefs use top-quality imported meats and produce to create a delightful range of dishes which, along with a carefully-crafted atmosphere, now makes this one of the most popular restaurants in the area. The smart and sophisticated fine-dining restaurant is located deep in a residential district behind Thappraya Road, between Pattaya and Jomtien.

  • This fine establishment is built into a Thai-Balinese-style house and its compound. Immediately through the gate is a charming courtyard and al fresco dining area, with gentle music accompanying the gurgling of fountains to create a cool and calm experience. If you choose the air-conditioned interior, you will be led to the right of the L-shaped room, to the cocktail lounge for an aperitif.

The drinks selection at Café des Amis Pattaya is very impressive, with the long drinks menu containing a large selection of traditional and more obscure cocktails (all 280 baht) fashioned from a range of exotic spirits and liqueurs. The wine cellar is equally well-stocked and boasts a number of top-end vintages priced between 1,100 and 4,400 baht. The smooth Chilean house wines are available by the glass, carafe or bottle. These can be enjoyed with dinner or in the comfortable sofas and seats of the lounge area.

Pass through the curtain into the main indoor dining room and you will find a very sophisticated setup with plush chairs with armrests set at smart tables. Armrests may seem like an insignificant point and hardly worth mentioning, but dining at Café des Amis Pattaya is an experience worth taking your time to savour and little touches to make that process more comfortable are what makes this family-managed business so special.

The food menu is nearly as impressive as the drinks one, with several unique and signature dishes in each category, including appetizers like Japanese scallops with black pudding and cauliflower puree (390 baht) and Antipasto des Amis (which features San Daniele ham, parmesan mousse, white asparagus, black truffle and Hollandaise sauce – 450 baht) and main courses like Tasmanian Salmon Supreme (with dill-crushed new potatoes, beetroot puree and horseradish foam – 480 baht) and four-hour Australian spicy lamb shank (with smoked paprika garlic chilli and cumin, served with mashed potatoes – 650 baht). There is a selection of pasta dishes, a small range of Thai food and a page of grilled steaks from the US, Australia and Canada, with five sauces and seven styles of potato. Each preparation is a delightful mix of flavours and textures.

Despite its somewhat obscure location away from the main road, Café des Amis Pattaya is still very easy to find. Simply turn off Thappraya Road on either Soi 9 or Soi 11 and the exotic frontage is straight ahead, at the end of either street, with plenty of parking space. Although the bright lights of Beach Road are an obvious draw for visitors to Pattaya, purveyors of top notch cuisine would be advised to seek out this excellent restaurant.
