Real Thai Food Restaurants in Naklua Beach

Many of the best local Thai restaurants in Naklua Beach take full advantage of their location close by the many fishing piers in the area. Effectively the home port of the Pattaya area’s fishing communities, the seafood is Naklua is as fresh as it gets, with great local preparations of shrimp, crabs and fish featuring prominently on many menus.

With none of the rowdy nightlife evident in southern parts of Pattaya, Naklua generally has a much more local atmosphere, with many of the restaurants having menus written exclusively in Thai for the benefit of their main customer base. However, the friendly and welcoming staff generally speak good enough English to help you with ordering, making the following restaurants among the best places in the whole of the city to get a genuine taste of Thailand.

Widely considered to be one of the best seafood restaurants in the whole Pattaya region, Moom Aroi’s prices are low enough for it to be considered an everyday restaurant rather than a place exclusively for special occasions. It is situated right by the beach, alongside some of the fishing communities which supply its fresh ingredients, including crab, lobster, shrimp and fish. The tasty Thai preparations and great affordable prices make it one of the busiest places in Naklua, with the great sunset views and talented live band also being big attractions. Read More...

    Jeto Restaurant

Despite an unusual location – right by an exit ramp for the main highway to Bangkok – Jeto is an exceptionally popular local restaurant. The small car park fills up fast at meal times, usually resulting in cars parking on the hard shoulder just so they can access this food court-style eatery. You can hardly blame them when the choice of Thai dishes, snacks, sweets and drinks is so wide and so cheap, with prices ranging from around 50 to 150 baht.

The place has been tactfully fitted out with modern furniture which suits the building’s rustic exterior, creating a homely yet comfortable dining experience.

The food, while simply presented, is tasty and very cheap, with popular dishes including the crab in yellow curry and stir-fried vegetables. Pla Thong Restaurant

Easily confused with the restaurant along the road by Lan Pho Public Park as well as the others in the area with the same name, this Pla Thong Restaurant is quite a simple Thai restaurant, with a clean whitewashed interior and smart furnishings. It has a modest menu of reasonably-priced Thai food, mostly focussing on seafood, including tasty fish, crab and prawn dishes. The coconut jelly dessert is particularly worth trying.

    Nam Ya Poo

Despite being what amounts to little more than a roadside shack (albeit quite a clean and smart one, with a vivid purple roof), this small family restaurant is popular with locals and clued-in expats living in the area. The menu is quite short and consists mostly of various curries served with crab meat (350 baht), fish (150 baht) and a southern Thai-style curry with fermented fish (also 150 baht), among others. While the menu is entirely written in Thai, the owners are friendly and welcoming and can help with ordering.

    Somtum Pa Pra Phai

Somtum Pa Pra Phai is a large but charming restaurant with an odd look which is halfway between simple and classy. The walls around the scrupulously clean kitchen area are painted a vivid green, which works surprisingly well with the purple plastic chairs and the blue roof. There is also a pleasant garden area with a more natural (less garish) look. In either situation, you can enjoy quite an extensive range of tasty and affordable Thai seafood dishes, including fried shrimp with garlic (155 baht), deep-fried catfish with spicy sauces (85 baht) and three stir-fried fish meats (125 baht).

Rim Talay (the best known of a number of restaurants in the area to go by the same name) is situated right on one of Pattaya’s nicest beaches. It has simple, sun-bleached tables set out in the two-storey building and out on the sand of Wong Amat Beach, giving you quite a rare opportunity to dine with your toes in the sand. The menu features a wide range of international choices, but the Thai food is particularly tasty and is cheap enough to make it a regular haunt for locals living in the area. The fried seafood with curry sauce and coconut milk (299 baht) is particularly tasty. Read More...
