Where and What to Eat in Pattaya Beach

Pattaya Beach restaurants can be anything from an adventure to a divine pleasure thanks to the amazing variety on offer. Within a few hundred metres of each other, you can go from downing stir-fried insects from a street vendor’s cart to savouring the finest haute cuisine. The city’s diverse population of locals and expatriates from around the world is represented in the list of eateries to choose from.

The truest taste of Thailand is naturally found on the street stalls, with the variety even in this cuisine being quite wide. Try out the excellent snacks from the wandering vendors on the beach, get some fast food from a push-cart or take a seat for first-class no-frills dishes at the regular pitches of the established stalls. Even some of the small restaurants in Pattaya Beach still show signs of their street heritage.

Also known as “Phak Boong Loy Fa”, it is a little disappointing to not see greenery whizzing around at head-height here. Sadly, “flying vegetables” is another name for stir-fried Morning Glory, the signature dish of this very Thai eatery on Pattaya Klang. The kitchen is an open affair at one end of the establishment, so it is possible to see the limited elevation the vegetables do achieve. The menu is extensive, almost entire Thai, and picture-heavy, making it easy to at least point at what you want if you can’t pronounce it. With good dishes at great prices, this restaurant is popular with locals and tourists alike. Read More...

The Royal Grill Room & Wine Cellar has the air of an old-fashioned gentleman’s club about it, where persons of import can discuss their affairs over a glass of brandy. With its dimly-lit wooden decor and atmosphere of elegance, refinement and exclusivity created by the presence of a dinnertime pianist and luxurious surroundings, it is a restaurant for connoisseurs of fine food and fine wine.

That is not to say that you need to be a government minister or professional food critic to eat here. There is a dress code – the ever-contradictory ‘smart-casual’, with a specific appeal against shorts – but, so long as you meet that standard, the staff are friendly and accommodating and the service is as smooth as you would expect from a five-star resort, regardless of whether you are sat in the air-conditioned interior or the al fresco terrace with a cool sea breeze.
